The Fleet Awards were created to reward IFT members and their chapters for their bravery, commitment, and efforts on behalf of the IFT. It is and always will be the members that make IFT what it is and will become.

Hopefully these awards will become more to our members than just ribbons. Each of them represent time and effort given freely from each rewarded member to our mission and purpose to the dream that is Gene Roddenberry's. To that end they should be worn with pride and receive respect from other IFT members. These are not awards that are given purely for the giving. They need to be earned and thus each of them aquire a meaning through the sacrifices that are made in earning them.

Fleet Awards are issued by four respected departments of the IFT.

First, the IFT Council (Command) approves ribbons that distinguish a member or chapter for valour in the face of a critical situation. The Council approves ribbons for personal dedication and acchievement to the IFT. The Council approves ribbons for IFT GEO's and Chapters that meet with the exspected as well as the exceptional contributions that are made by these chapters to the IFT.

Second, the IFT Academy Director approves ribbons that reward as well as distinguish members that undertake courses at the Academy. Each ribbon represents a course of study. The attachments to the ribbons represent the phase that a member is at in taking that School of study as well as the members level of acchievement in completion of the course.

Third, GEO Commanders and Chapter Commanding officers have a series of ribbons that they can approve for their members to reward service and dedication. These awards fall under their jurisdiction and do not require approval by the IFT Council to issue.

Lastly tha Director of the Cadet Corps. and Ship Captains has a series of ribbons that can be issued to Cadets for dedication and committment to their chapters and IFT.

    Fleet Award Protocol:

18 Fleet Awards may be worn on your uniform. You may earn more than 18, however, in the interest of maintaining a Star Trek like feeling, 18 would seem to be the best display size to fit within that medium. The top 18 awards that an IFT member has been awarded should be presented on their display.

Awards should be worn on the right hand side of your uniform. On a TOS uniform they should be centered on the right with the department embroidery that is on the left chest front of the uniform. Fleet awards should be centered midway on the right front uniform side between chest center and the right arm pit. On a TNG, DSP, or VOY uniform they should be worn on the right side 1" down down from the seam of the shoulder section. Again they should be centered between the center chest and the right arm pit.

    Order of Precedence:

Fleet Awards are to be worn in order of importance from left to right on the ribbon holder. The sections on this website have their ribbons set up in proper order of importance. Each section is in it's proper place of order as well. Academy awards are worn after Command awards, Geo - Ships after Academy and so on.

Each of the four departments have futher explanation of their Fleet Awards under their specific caption.
