The USS Navigator is the Youngstown chapter of the International Federation of Trekkers. The Navigator and IFT are dedicated to enjoying Star Trek in all different forms. We encourage our members to enjoy all aspects of Star Trek - and science fiction in general. We have fun by participating in meetings, attending conventions, and sharing our views and experiences from around the world. The USS Navigator, in particular, has attended movie premiers and conducted fundraisers for charities. Our main goal is to promote Star Trek enthusiasts as intelligent, socially conscious, active individuals who are aware and concerned about the real world today. MeetingsWe hold our meetings on the second Saturday of each month at Caribou Coffee in Boardman, Ohio. We start at 3:00 PM and meet for an hour or so. feel free to attend one of our meetings! All are welcome! (See Home page for our next meeting date.) IFT ActivitiesThe Navigator is actively involved with IFT. We attend several events each year, to promote our chapter and IFT, and our Commanding Officer is the past editor of Voyages (IFT's news publication) and formerly held the office of GEO 1 Commander. We have attended conventions in in our area, including Vulkon in Cleveland. CharityWe try to actively support charities and local organizations by participating in at least one "fundraiser" each year. Members of the Navigator have walked to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and we are currently trying to decide on a fundraising activity for 2007. The USS Navigator held its first major fundraising event - Skate Trek 2002 - to benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Skate Trek took place over two weekends in December 2002 - kicking off at the local movie theater during the premier of Star Trek Nemesis. With the assistance of another local Trek club, we held raffles and played games, all to raise money. The event came to a conclusion at a local roller skating rink the following weekend. Skate Connection in Boardman, Ohio, donated the facilities and all admission money was donated to our charity. With admissions, Chinese raffle proceeds, and the money raised at the theater, we were able to make a significant contribution to worthy cause.
