If you are looking for an explanation of what the Olympic is, then you have come to the right place!

The Olympic, of course, is a Star Trek fan club. But we are more than a group that meets at conventions dressed in costumes or geeks who get together to talk about the last episode of Enterprise. We are a community group that gets involved in various types of volunteer services such as community beautifications, recycling, and food banks and kitchens.

We are a chapter of the International Federation of Trekkers, an international organization that promotes Gene Roddenberry's dream that is envisioned in the world of Star Trek. All chapters of the IFT participate in volunteer services just like we do. It is a part of ataining Gene's dream by bettering humanity.

Below are a couple of FAQ's to help you learn more about the Olympic. I will add more to this list as more questions are asked.

Thank you for your interest and I would like to encourage anyone with questions to write us at jafugate@woh.rr.com if you have any questions!

FAQ's

Q: If I join, am I required to participate in volunteer services?
A: No. The Olympic is whatever you make of it, and if you chose not to participate in these services, we do not condone you or punnish you in anyway.

Q: I do not live in Ohio. Can I still join the Olympic?
A: Yes. Any person can be a member of any IFT ship no matter where they live in the world. But please know that there are some positions on our ship that are local level only, such as the Chief Medical Officer, the Chief of Operations, and the Representative. But, most of the time, we can still find something for people to do even if they do not live here. You can also attend our online meetings that we have from time to time. Most members even have instant messengers like MSN Messenger and ICQ, so you could also communicate with us via these programs.

Q: I am interested in joining a ship closer to me. Does the IFT have any chapters in my area?
A: To find the answer to this, go to the IFT website and click FLEET OPERATIONS and then click GEOS AND CHAPTERS. All IFT groups are listed here.
