Class Summary:
One of very few classes of starship designed for the battlefield. Akira Class starships played a prominent role in the Borg's attack on Earth in 2372. Unusual features of this class include port and starboard facing photon torpedo tubes and an extenssive arrangement of suttlebays throughout the forward and aft portions of the saucer section.
Webmaster's Notes:
Named for the animated fantasy film. Certain aspects have led people to believe that the Akira Class starship was around during the TNG days, but remained unseen.
