January 2002

ED 0201.31

Well, this will be the last entry for the month of January. From this point on, when I start a new month, I will place the old month's entries in an archive on the menu bar. This will help anyone that has missed messages on the cusp of the month or for those who are REALLY interested in our past.

Final preparations are being made for the IFT National Conference. It is definate now that we will be rooming with Commander Brent Boehler of the USS Valiant and his First Officer, Mandy. Mandy has asked if anyone will be joining her in bouncing on the hotel beds. Bet none of you knew that this trip was gonna be aerobic, did you?

Oh, and I finished the new handbook last night. It won't be online for a while, however, but I'll have it ready for the next meeting soon. I'll be contacting some of you to reschedule that meeting, due to the fact that not everyone will now be going to the conference, so it's probably not best to have the meeting there anymore. So look for that change.

It's been a few days since I updated and tonight, I haven't done much.

It has been a busy several days with late nights and email. The big news is that we will be rooming with two members of the USS Valiant. I feel that this will be an excellent and fun experience for everyone involved.

I updated the links page tonight with new IFT ships and a couple celebrity sites.

I am currently processing an application for our first international member, Alexie Basileyo. He is from the Philippines and will be joining our Operations and Medical departments. He has also decided to take the officer's exam, which means that he will start out as an Acting Ensign. So, welcome to the Olympic Acting Ensign Basileyo!

Just thought you'd all like to know that I have finished the first issue of volume two of the Distress Call! It will be posted online soon and passed out at the next meeting.

This site has now officially changed over to support a no frames format. This is for people whos browers do not support frames or people who simply do not like the frames format of this site.

I also added some links to the menu bar. Enjoy them! I know I do.

I have received notice that the IFT Dinner at the IFT National Conference has been switched to a luncheon. It will still take place on the Saturday of the con, but it will start at 11:30am and go until 1pm. The reason for this is that George Takei will be on stage at the previously scheduled time. The meal menu and price will remain unchanged. I will still need everyone's menu choice by January 31.

Also, we all know that I am forever in support of having gay characters featured in the Star Trek franchise. I wanted to share this article with everyone that pretty much sums up my opinion of the situation. The article is by a gentleman named Michael and is featured on the website SyFy Portal.

And, finally, I just wanted to let everyone know that there is a possibility that the next Star Trek feature "Nemesis" will be in theaters on November 22. So make plans for opening night . . . that's an order!

I added some news and some links today, and I updated the Command Department page that I haven't touched in, like, months. I also scheduled a meeting for February.

We need to get the newsletter back online. I cannot reach Commander Cupp, so my decision has been to go ahead and write the next newsletter myself until Kenneth returns. I am doing so to keep with our "Year of the Olympic" campaign. So if anyone has any articles that they wish to submit, please contact me. Soon. Like, right now. I mean it. ASAP . . . please?

The dinner menu has arrived for the IFT Conference and I have added it to the itinerary. The dinner will be on the Saturday afternoon of the convention from 4pm till 6pm. The money will be due in cash at the IFT table on the morning of the dinner. You may also make your payment on the IFT website. The deadline to make your entree selection will be January 31, so make sure I have everyone's order by then.

Also, if there are any Department Heads that are looking for someone to host their department's website, please go to IFT Communities and take look into letting them be your server. The site is hosted by IFT's own Anthony Haslage.

I hope everyone is having a good weekend!!!

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I added some links tonight.

Also, I'd like to welcome our new Chief Science Officer Acting Ensign Aaron Wilson onboard the Olympic!!! He will be soon taking the Officer's Exam, so everyone drop him a line and wish him good luck!!!

I have started on the second edition of the handbook. It will be done by our next meeting.

Also, I want to thank everyone for an excellent meeting over the weekend. I think it's our best yet!!!

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I believe that Commander Cupp does not have internet service. I have sent a couple of messages to him, but they have been returned to me. So until I hear otherwise, treat this as the gospel.

I was hoping to have a newsletter ready soon and Commander Cupp is in charge of that. I am pretty sure that he has one complete and I will make a decision regarding the next issue of the Distress Call the next time I speak with him.

Also, please be aware that there is an Ohio meeting coming up.

ATTENTION CREW:
Please take the time to notice that there have been several changes made to our handbook. Those changes are now available by accessing the database portion of this website. The major change has been the elimination of the Communications Department. We will discus why and the other changes at the next meeting.

We have completed two different types of business cards for our club. Check them out and decide which one may be best for you. Or maybe you'd like some of each . . .

I have posted a rough draft of the itinerary that we will be using for the IFT Conference and Farpoint Convention. Feel free to check it out. I will post notifications here as I make changes and updates.

Also, start looking for information about Marcon 37 in Columbus. It's just around the corner on Memorial Day weekend. I hope to get a hall table this year. I will post information about that soon, as we will need to set up a schedule of people to help out.

Well, my ZIP drive is back online, so I can start updating the site again!!!

New ID tags have been designed for the Con and whatever else you want to use them for. They will be similar to the previous tags, but they will have pics. And instead of attaching them to clips, we will put them on those long straps that people wear aound their necks with their keys or that I see a lot of employees put their ID's on at stores and such. So I'm looking forward to getting pictures taken and getting these passed out.

The Con is just a little over a month away and I can hardly wait. Myself, the Counselor, and Dr. Moore will be in attendance each and every day of the weekend long event. Afterwards, we will post our experiences here.

'Til then . . . Captain Fugate
