U.S.S. Enterprise, U.S.S. Enterprise-A
Class Summary:
Once the Constitution Class starships reached 20 years of age, Starfleet began looking into a possible replacement fleet. However, since the class had performed so well, the decision was made to simply refit the existing vessels. Nearly every single major system was replaced. The U.S.S. Enterprise was selected to be the first to receive the refit. This class was eventually completely retired and replaced by the Excelsior Class fleet.

It is not known exactly what vessels were refit and what vessels were not since the U.S.S. Enterprise was the only refit Constitution Class ever seen. We do know, however, that the U.S.S. Yorktown was refit, but it was subsequently renamed and became the Enterprise-A.
