This class was made in counterpart to the Galaxy and Nebula Class series using mostly the same hull and engine configurations. Unique features on this vessel include the three burst-fire torpedo tubes designed on the exterior of the ship to allow more interior volume for other key ship systems.

This class is named for the ship City of New Orleans. Presumably, there is also a U.S.S. New Orleans.
