The following information will set the responsibilities and expected job of each key officer onboard the U.S.S. Olympic. These officers are chosen by the Captain and hold their positions by seniority.
The Command Staff
The command staff of the U.S.S. Olympic consists of the Captain, First Officer, and the Chief of Staff. They are the board of directors that will oversee all aspects of the ship's functions. Their duties as a collective are as follows:
The Captain
This is the Captain of the U.S.S. Olympic. He has say in all matters of the ship. He has the authority to override any decision, with the exception of the decisions of the Chief Medical Officer. However, the CMO has the authority to give him medical orders and with the combined effort from the First Officer and Counselor, declare the Commanding officer unfit for duty.
The Captain will run all meetings of the U.S.S. Olympic unless certain conditions disallow him. He is also in charge of editing the ship's website.
Only the Captain, the First Officer, and the Second Officer have the Self-Destruct Codes. The Captain can withhold any information from the club unless it dangerously conflicts with the safety of the ship and/or the crew. The Captain will authorize any use of ship's funds. He has the authority to relieve any officer from duty with due cause. The Captain selects his First Officer and all other primary positions.
Please note that any officer that takes command as the Acting Captain will also hold the above powers.
The First Officer
He is the second-in-command of the U.S.S. Olympic and the editor of The Distress Call ship's newsletter. In the absence of the Captain, he will take command of the ship. He may not be a Department Head. Along with the Counselor and the Chief Medical Officer, he can determine the Captain unfit for duty. He will assist the Captain in meetings. He will work closely with the Department Heads and guide them through any problems or questions they may have. He will fill out a quarterly report for the Captain summarizing the condition of the departments. The First Officer, the Captain, and the Second Officer have the Self-Destruct Codes. The First Officer can authorize certain things, but should contact the Captain if he deems necessary.
The Chief of Staff
He is, in essence, the Second Officer. He is third-in-command of the U.S.S. Olympic and the assistant to the First Officer. All members of the Staff report to him. In the absence of the Captain and the First Officer, he will take command of the ship. He will accompany the First Officer on all Away Team missions. He, the First Officer, and the Captain have the self-destruct codes. He may authorize things, but should confer with the First Officer and Captain as he deems it necessary.
DEPARTMENT HEADS
Department Heads will run the Department they are assigned command to. They will determine the individual responsibilities of the members of their department. They have the authority to print a department newsletter and make it as frequent as they like. They should report quarterly to the First Officer. They will have a subject that they will report to the crew on monthly. These reported subjects may appear in the ship’s news letter or on the ship’s website. They can also assign an Assistant Chief, set up divisions, and assign Division Chiefs.
Chief Engineer
He will report monthly on technology news, Star Trek or real world oriented. He is responsible for the set-up of the meeting place and should show up to meetings early to ensure that everything is set-up properly. He will make sure that everything functions and that the physical part of the meeting accommodates everyone. He will work closely with the Chief Medical Officer to ensure that the meeting place it properly set for any recreational activities. He will also make sure that the meeting place is clean afterwards and that nothing is broken. He can design posters and hang up banners at meetings. He will operate all recording equipment. He should be able to give technical advice and support when needed.

He will also keep on file all of the ships handbooks and manuals and have them updated as needed.
Chief Medical Officer
He will report monthly on diseases, medical conditions, medical treatments, and/or medicine. He is in charge of refreshments and entertainment for all meetings and parties. He will also be responsible for first aid of any crewmember during ship's functions. He has the ability to relieve any officer of duty for physical or mental reasons. He, along with the First Officer and Counselor, can prove the Captain unfit for duty. Although medical certification is not required to hold this post, it does help in obtaining it.
Chief Science Officer
He will report on astrology and general science news. This position exists primarily for role-play purposes.
Chief Of Security
He will report on Star Trek computer gaming. He has the authority to ask anyone to
leave a meeting or any other ship function with good clause. The Command Staff can override that decision if necessary. He can view any file, log, report, etc. unless otherwise noted by a member of the Command Staff.
