David Perez's Funeral, November 28, 2003

At Fritz Henry's Funeral Home, Indio, CA, where we have gathered Saturday morning for the viewing. David is dressed in his Star Trek uniform and is surrounded by the things he loved.
Left, a drawing of David as Scotty more than 10 years ago.

Top, after the viewing, the pall bearers carry the casket to the hearse on our way to the church.

Everyone watches solemnly as they load his casket. David has a beautiful blue casket, which they carry into the Catholic church.
The beautiful interior of the church where the ceremony will be held. His casket is covered in a ceremonial shroud.
We stand and get ready to leave at the end of the testimonies. At the cemetary, his pall bearers gather to carry him to his final resting place.
It is a beautiful day and the sun is shining. The crew of the USS Ulysses and USS Nathan Hale stand front and center to award David his promotion posthumously.
We turn to salute the casket as a final farewell to our fallen crewmember. Jesse hands Juanita a communicator. She says through tears, "One to beam up. Energize."
Juanita stands with Jesse at the last. The funeral over, we take one last shot with Jesse.
We commiserate after the funeral. Juanita hugs Pam and Gene looks grim. 'D' talks with Pam afterwards.
Top, those of us that can stop for lunch at the Agua Caliente Casino. We joke and remember the good times with David.

Right, the flowers we ordered for David's funeral but which Juanita and Gene had to deliver to Jesse. Bird of paradise was David's favorite flower.
