The Living Desert Away Mission

The crew of the Ulysses gather around for the obligatory group shot. Butt shot of Ulysses crewmembers...no, really, showing off the Ulysses logo.
Juanita holds up our official adoption papers for the Mountain Lion. David and kids, with Michael, sit in the shade waiting for an errant crewmember to show up.
One of the beautiful date palms that line the entrance to The Living Desert. You can't see them, but it's covered in hungry little birds. Walking to the new Exotic Animal Veterinarian Hospital on the grounds, passing the entrance to the also worthy horticultural program.
Since our adopted animal was the Bobcat last year, we couldn't pass up the opportunity to take this photo. After running ahead, a group shot of us walking along one of the many beautiful paths.
One of the many flowers in bloom in February. It was such a nice day! Outside the entrance to the Vet Hospital, the Ulysses name on the plaque of donors.
After making Juanita pose, she points out our spot on the plaque. Left to right, Sue, Pam's friend, and Phyllis Enet, a crewmember, crack up while taking a picture.
One of the animals in the recovery rooms of the Vet Hospital, woodpecking. A rattlesnake isolated while it finishes shedding (highly irritable at this stage).
The high-tech surgery rooms of the Veterinarian Hospital while on tour. We listen to our guide as she explains the function of the hospital.
In the hands-on room, David plays with one of the computers. The ducks go to town in the small ponds and streams located throughout the The Living Desert.
In the nocturnal habitat, a small anteater shrew after brawling with the other one for food. Juanita talks to the birds...and the birds listen.
Sedona, the female mountain lion, lounges in the sun. She gets irritated with her boyfriend, Reno, and gets up to bug him.
Some African warthogs cuddle during a mid-day nap. On our way to the African exhibit across the park. Yeah, it's in a desert.
Sabi, the female cheetah, at the Sabi & Henry show in the African Village. An African giraffe in the new giraffe exhibit.
The beautiful new grounds for the African giraffes. The kids hang out on the railing overlooking the giraffes.
I take a self-portrait on our way out of the park. However, we have to stop and check out the awesome model train set.
One of the many trains running the tracks crosses a miniature Grand Canyon. Phyllis takes our picture, Mandy and Juanita.
One of the many charming details...a Union 76 oil tower. At one end, a train unloads logs into the miniature lake. And we went home from here!
