Hello all! It's time for another update from your Chief of Operations. :-) July 4th was a great day for the Ulysses and the Nathan Hale as we celebrated not only our nation's Independence, but our anniversaries! Juanita, Gene, and I left Sunday morning to get ready for a very big day. When we arrived in Big Bear at Lagonita Lodge, it was time to stake out the tables, while we played Who Wants to Be a Millionaire on Juanita's laptop. ;-)

Behind the picnic tables, other celebrators had decorated their balconies in full patriotic spirit. It made for some beautiful displays. Once the gang arrived, it was time to get BBQing! Gene and Jebbie pitched in with BBQ pork ribs and deliciously perfect hot dogs. Later, Judy and her brother arrived. He did a great job cooking up the rest of what was definitely more than enough food! Okay, so I over-estimated the crowd by about 10 people. Sorry about that Judy! In my defense, several people cancelled or simply didn't show up. We did eat a lot of it. :-)

Then as dusk settled and we likewise settled in to wait for the fireworks show, it was time to escape the gnats and bloodthirsty flies for Juanita's condo, where we relaxed before the show. Of course, it wasn't long before we staked out our piece of lakefront property to wait for the show!

(Continued)

There ensued 1 1/2 hours of karaoki torture, as we listened to some good songs being sung by very brave souls with no talent. Juanita was so pained, she buried her head in a bag. Of course, it saved her hearing.

At 9:20 pm, the fireworks began! Faintly, in the back-ground, played patriotic music, while we watched the fireworks display over the water. Jebbie and I took some nice pictures of what was a great display. Unfortunately, it was time for the long drive home immediately afterwards. But one more year triumphantly complete for the USS Ulysses! ;-)
