Back on the Klingon vessel

Nathan: (at the wall) Hey Juanita, I think I found something. Look on the wall to the left of the forcefield.
Gamble: (touching the area) Why, what is it? OWWWWW, why didn’t you tell me that it bites back?
Nathan: I think that this is our way out. (he pulls his tunic over his hand) Let me see.

He deactivates the forcefield and they exit the brig into the corridor
Sneaking down a hallway

Nathan: Now, let’s find a shuttle and get off this ship. (Next shot, in the shuttlebay) Well, there is a spare, do you think they’ll notice that it’s gone?
Gamble: There’s only one way to find out, let’s go.

They head towards nearest shuttle

Back with the Ulysses and Hale who have rendezvoused and are continuing to follow ion trail

On the bridge of the Ulysses

Blair: (at tactical) Commander Ison, long-range scanners are picking up a shuttle heading for the fourth planet in the solar system ahead.
Ison: (in center seat) Robert, plot a course for that planet and get me the Hale.

On the bridge of the Hale, D is in the center seat

D: Tactical, we show a shuttle launch from the Klingon ship. Can you contact it or possibly scan it?
H.Tact: The shuttle communication channels are being jammed, and we’re unable to scan the interior. The ion trail indicates that the Klingons are in pursuit.
Lucas: Commander we are being hailed by the Ulysses.
D: On screen

Aboard the Ulysses

Ison: (speaking to the viewscreen) We have a problem, Commander. The Klingons are firing on the shuttle.
D: (on viewscreen - general question to both crews) Are we close enough to help?

On viewscreen

H.OPS: Negative, we won’t be in phaser or transporter range for another 15 mins.
H.Tact: Comm., they’ve hit the right nacelle on the shuttle, it’s out of control and heading for the atmosphere of the planet.

Aboard the Ulysses

Ison: (Stands and asks worriedly) Scan the planet David, are there any life signs?
Blair: The shuttle has crashed on the planet, but it appears to be intact, sort of.
Gengo: (looks at Mandy in disbelief) Sort of, what’s that supposed to mean? Are the captains alive?

Looking at the bridge of Ulysses through the viewscreen D has walked to their tactical station and is looking at readout

D: We’re getting faint life signs through the interference but we can’t lock onto either captain.

Act II, Scene II

On the planet the two captains crawl out of the damaged shuttle

Gamble: You know what Nathan; remind me to never go anywhere with you again. Next time, I drive. Great landing, I think that every bone in my body is either bruised or broken.
Nathan: (defensively) Hey, it’s not my fault. They hit the nacelle, you try landing with only one.

They finally extricate themselves from the wreckage

Gamble: (standing) Ok, whatever.
Nathan: Let’s get out of here before they come looking for us. Hopefully our ships were close enough to witness the attack.

They begin walking away from the wreckage into the trees.
Back on the Hale

H.Tact: Comm. Tajalle, we’re within transporter range now. The away team is awaiting your orders.
D: (sitting) Very well, energize.

On the planet two away teams materialize. Commander Ison takes command of both teams

Ison: We’ll split into groups of two, and each group will go a different direction. The Klingons are jamming our signals so the tricorders are useless therefore we must search the old fashioned way. Lt. Perez you are on my team and we will go East, I don’t have to remind you that we need to find the captains before the Klingons do. Let’s go.

Ison heads to the right and the other members go in their assigned direction. In the clearing with wreckage of shuttle Tom receives a hail from his captain who is on the Feklehr’s Pride

Trish: (to Tom via communicator) The Federation vessels have beamed teams down here and they’re searching. Separate and capture them, maybe we can use them to lure their captains. Those captains will give up if we have some of their people, they are such sentimental fools.
Tom: (on planet) As you wish.
Trish: The chancellor is on his way; he will be in orbit in 20 minutes.
Tom: We will capture everyone and meet the chancellor in this clearing.
Trish: Q’apla.

The Klingons separate and move away and the captains breathe a sigh of relief that they weren’t discovered.

Nathan: (Standing) Well, apparently our ships did witness the attack on us. We need to find them before the Klingons do.
Gamble: All right captain, we don’t want to have to rescue our crew so which direction do we go in?

They begin walking and it becomes painfully obvious that her ankle is broken not just sprained.

Gamble: (grabbing her ankle) Nathan, I think that my ankle is broken, I can’t bear pressure on it anymore, I thought it was just a sprain. You need to go ahead, I will slow you down too much.
Nathan: Then we’ll both wait here; I’m not leaving you alone.
Gamble: (leaning against a tree) No, you need to find our crews before the Klingons do. I can hide here; our first priority is to our crew. Nathan, I’ll be fine. Go.
Nathan: All right, be careful and keep your head down. I’ll be back as soon as I can.
Gamble: Ok daddy. Nathan, you be careful.

He walks away and Captain Gamble tries to walk to find a safer place to hide. She makes it about a few hundred feet. She suddenly feels a weapon in her back and turns to find (Tom) smiling at her.

Tom: Well, well, Captain Gamble, so nice to see you again. Was your ride a little rough?
Gamble: Yeah, a little, thanks to you trying to kill us.
Tom: If we were trying, you’d be dead. Now shut up and move.

He shoves her forward

When they reach the clearing that they are going to meet the chancellor at, he shoves her down next to a tree

Tom: Stay there and shut your mouth, the Chancellor will deal with you when he gets here.

Somewhere on the planet Nathan sees the away team and walks over to them
Ison and David react with surprise as he steps out of the trees

Ison: Natha…., Captain Gastineau, we’re glad to see you’re alive, but where is my captain?
Nathan: Comm. Ison, it’s good to see you again also. You’re captain is hiding over there, let’s go find her. (he points in the direction he just came from)

Her communicator beeps

Ison: (tapping her communicator) Ison here.
Gengo: (via comm.) Comm., we have just received a message from the Klingon Chancellor. They have Captain Gamble; she’s being held in the clearing near the shuttle crash. You need to locate Captain Gastineau.
Nathan: (answering for her) Comm. Gengo, I’m found. What else did they say?
Gengo: They say that you must surrender yourself or they are going to punish her.
Nathan: Did they say exactly what that means?
Gengo: (patiently) No sir, but they didn’t sound like they were going to give her a free ride home.
Nathan: Comm., notify the Hale and tell them that I am surrendering myself to the Klingons.
Ison: (protesting) Capt., you can’t do that, we can try to negotiate with them for her release.
Nathan: (looking at her) You can’t negotiate with Klingons, and they could kill your captain if I don’t surrender myself. I don’t trust Klingons and now I doubt that I ever will. And now is not the time to gamble with your captain’s life, no pun intended.
D: (through Ison’s comm.) Captain, this is Commander Tajalle, since your communicator isn’t functional there is no way for us to track you.
Nathan: Comm., just scan for two humans in the midst of devious, treacherous and conniving Klingons. Gastineau out.
Nathan: (to Mandy) Comm. Ison, you and your team will accompany me as far as the clearing, that way we can be sure that she is still alive before I walk into the lion’s den. Inform Comm. Gengo and have her notify us when the chancellor’s ship arrives.
Ison: (taps badge) Comm. Ison to Ulysses.
Gengo: Go ahead commander.
Ison: Comm., please notify us when the chancellor’s ship arrives.
Gengo: Hold on, the chancellor’s ship along with two others just dropped out of warp.
Ison: Thank you comm. Ison out.
Nathan: (hearing that) Damn, let’s go, double time.

Act II, Scene III

In the clearing next to the shuttle crash the chancellor and Trish have beamed down and are having a disagreement

Roy: Captain, you said that both of the renegade captains were in your custody. I only count one, have you forgotten how to count or did you allow one to escape?
Gamble: (sitting next to tree) Well, it seems that they lied to you, imagine that, a lying Klingon. Are you really surprised?
Roy: (turning on her) Shut up, you’re in no position to be making jokes. Your life depends on the actions of the other criminal captain. (turning back to Trish) Well, where is he?
Nathan: (stepping into the clearing) I’m here chancellor, your people lied to you if they said that they had captured me. I am coming here voluntarily to prove that we had nothing to do with the destruction of your shuttle.

On the Hale

D: (sitting) Contact the Centurion.
H. Tact.: They are responding.
D: On screen.
Monroe: (on viewscreen) Comm. Tajalle, how can we be of assistance?
D: The captains of the Nathan Hale and the Ulysses are being put on trial for the destruction of a Klingon shuttle.
Monroe: I take it that they didn’t do it?
D: No they didn’t.
Monroe: We can be there within the hour if we break the treaty.
D: Please do so.
Monroe: On our way. Centurion out.
D: (to Comm. Gengo via communicator) Comm. Gengo, the Centurion is on its way and will be here within the hour. I think that the Marines should be present in case the Klingons try something.
Gengo: (audio only) You mean like kidnapping our captains, I just can’t imagine them doing something like that.
D: Yes, they’ve been so courteous and cooperative up to now.
